can you make that "missed note" sound on purpose? IDK, the texture of it feels real to me. Kinda like someone that is screaming but is also exhausted. Also...you recording this for a new album? (=

The simplest way to explain this stuff is by using music notation. You could probably save about 10 minutes of your explanation. IMHO the most interesting part is about articulating (not to use triplets).

Would be interesting if you take it away from simple pentatonic and experiment with substitute chord changes. The overtones and altissimo might be impressive to a newer sax player but these solos are quite basic at the core and could easily level up by adding some alternate harmony (maybe tritone subs) rhythmic offsetting. Not kicking you here, just seeing things that could help boost the tonal interest for advanced players and take it away from being a safer sound pentatonic fl-exercise.

Hey! Thanks for the message. It's a little more than straight pentatonics, but I get where you are coming from. I am definitely not playing outside, or using advanced concepts. I'm just playing a groove with my own personal style and creating energy with my dynamics, articulations, and ideas. I personally am not a fan of when a straight funk solo goes into the jazz theory concept world. Obviously, when I hear Kenny Garrett or Brecker do it, I think it sounds great, but that's not at all the sound I'm going for.

@@ScottPaddock If staying inside is what you are happy with then I understand what you are aiming for. Outside and adventurous is my calling but we all like different things, no right or wrong here just different concepts, style and taste. All good.

Now check out these magical tricks! Every baritone saxophonist knows that he can play a bass clef part... tuba, trombone, euphonium, by pretending the sheet music has a treble clef, and adding three sharps or subtracting three flats. And in general, flats become naturals, naturals become sharps. Similarly, a tenor saxophonist can read a tenor clef part, again, pretending it is a treble clef, and adding TWO sharps, subtracting TWO flats, etc. As far as C and F saxes, it is not just the pitch, they have a different timbre. The C Melody has a timbre somewhat between that of tenor and alto. It is lighter, not as full bodied as tenor. Likewise, the F Mezzo Soprano has a timbre between that of alto and soprano sax. Interestingly, the first saxophone A. Sax built was actually a C bass sax. Next came a C soprano. The C and F instruments were going to be intended for use in orchestra.
